Traffic rerouting over new bridges and SH 34 road
FM 2990 bridge has closed, traffic being rerouted over new SH 34 bridge and FM 1550
Upper Trinity Regional Water District, in coordination with Texas Department of Transportation – Paris District, recently closed the FM 2990 bridge over the North Sulphur River to traffic. The closure on July 8 was a necessary part of construction for Lake Ralph Hall. The roadway on either side of the bridge remains open to local traffic, and fossil hunters can access the temporary Ladonia Fossil Park via SH 34 and FM 1550. Signage has been placed to alert drivers, who are encouraged to stay tuned to the lake’s Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) for the latest updates.
The temporary Ladonia Fossil Park location will remain open until Upper Trinity begins filling Lake Ralph Hall. After the lake fills, Upper Trinity will build a new, permanent fossil park to provide fossil hunters with access to the North Sulphur River. Crews have made big strides on the lake’s intake station and nearby dam and spillway over the last six months. The intake will draw water from the lake into the pump station, where it can be piped for treatment. The spillway will release excess water from the lake downstream. An impressive 96% of the pipe needed to transport lake water has been delivered, and 73% is already installed. All pipe should be installed by February 2025. The project has required extensive collaboration between Garney Construction, four major engineering/consulting firms, and 11 subcontractors on five different pipeline sections, a balancing reservoir, and a delivery point facility.
Pipeline crews will continue to install the pipeline, then restore the ground above it. The balancing reservoir is under construction, and the delivery point building should be underway this fall. More on the pipeline system and its various components here.
