Lake Ralph Hall has been decades in the making, with its first permit filed in 2003. The reservoir broke ground in early 2021 and is scheduled to begin delivering water by 2026. See below for a full project schedule broken down by its different components.

The anticipated Lake Ralph Hall project schedule is as follows. Please note that all these dates are subject to change as construction progresses: - In 2002 planning and permitting begins. - In the first quarter of 2013, the water rights permit is issued. - In the first quarter of 2020, the Section 404 Permit is issued. - In the second quarter of 2021, Ladonia Fossil Park relocated to a temporary site, and both Leon Hurse Dam & roadway relocation begins. - In the second quarter of 2023, reservoir area clearing and demolition starts. Pipeline, pump station & balancing reservoir construction begins. Environmental improvements also begin. - In the fourth quarter of 2023, the project’s road and bridge work is finished. - In the first quarter of 2025, construction is finished on the environmental improvements, reservoir area clearing and demolition. - In the third quarter of 2025, the lake office and maintenance facility construction starts. - In the fourth quarter of 2025, the pipeline, pump station and balancing reservoir are finished. Leon Hurse dam is also completed. - In the first quarter of 2026, the lake office and maintenance facility is finally finished, and Lake Ralph Hall begins to fill. - In the third quarter of 2026, water delivery begins from Lake Raph Hall.
