UTRWD Provides an Update on Operations, Conservation and Watershed Protection Activities.
Don’t Water At All Y’all
With plants dormant and winter temperatures approaching, Upper Trinity is encouraging residents to turn off their sprinklers and to winterize faucets, exposed pipes, and swimming pools. Prepare now to save money and water! Find more tips on how to protect your home this winter on our ‘Winter Weatherization’ webpage!

Drought and Lake Level Update
The drought continues in North Texas. The recent rains have done very little to refill area lakes. Lewisville Lake is 85% full and Chapman Lake is less than 73% full. A weak La Niña has emerged in the Pacific Ocean and is expected to persist until at least March 2025, meaning a greater likelihood of a warmer, drier weather pattern for North Texas and lower lake levels next spring and summer. Keeping sprinklers off helps to save water for what’s important in the months ahead.

School Outreach and Education
Recently, Upper Trinity hosted 13 students from the Episcopal School of Dallas and 30 students from the Frisco Catholic Homeschool Group for a tour of the Water Wise Garden in Lewisville. The students also interacted with demonstrations of the stream erosion trailer and Enviroscape watershed model to learn about ways they can protect water quality in their daily lives. These demonstrations were also presented to more than 50 students and parents during the recent STEM night at the Jane Ruestmann Elementary in Argyle. Learn more about our Teacher Resources.

Duck Hunters and Zebra Mussels
Getting on the lake this winter to hunt waterfowl or to fish? Make sure to do your part to prevent the spread of invasive zebra mussels to other lakes. Every time you pull your boat out, clean, drain and dry to remove these destructive mussels from hitching a ride to the next lake.

UTRWD Donates Van to Fannindel ISD
As part of its commitment to the Fannin County community, Upper Trinity recently donated a van to Fannindel ISD. The van, used by Upper Trinity’s Maintenance Department, will now be used to transport band equipment for Fannindel. Accepting the van is Travis Wadell, Fannindel ISD Superintendent (pictured on far right).
